Lord Ram is coronated and addressed as "Maryada Purshottam" by Narad Muni. Brahmaji asks Valmiki to write the Ramayan. Sita conceives “Luv-Kush”. Ram overhears people talking negatively about Sita’s purity which shocks him. Guru Vashisht asks him to follow his duties as a king and to keep the honour of the state; Sita decides to go away from Ram. Lakshman leaves her in the forest and Valmiki welcomes her to his hermitage. Sita leads a life of a “Sanyasin”. Maharshi Valmiki advises her to forget the memories of Ayodhya. Ram sleeps on grass below the level of Sita’s bed. Rishis plead Ram to save them from the atrocities of demon Lavana. Ram hands over the divine weapons to Shatrughna to kill Lavana who goes to Valmiki’s ashram to seek his blessings. Sita is happy to see him but does not come out.

Sita give birth to twins. Shatrughna blesses them and Shatrughna kills Lavana and the Rishis and Munis are set free. Valmiki teaches archery to Luv and Kush. Maharshi Valmiki tells the story of Ram to Luv and Kush. Ram is to perform Ashvamedh Yagya. Guru Vashisht asks him to get married again as he cannot perform yagya without his wife. Instead, Ram makes a golden statue of Sita and performs the yagya. Sita also performs a yagya on her own. Shri Ram sends Shatrughna with Ashwamedh horse for conquest.

Luv- Kush read the challenge written on the horse’s forehead and Luv-Kush managed to defeat Shatrughna’s army that shocks Ram. Luv and Kush after defeating Lakshman and Bharat hold Hanuman captive. Ram confronts them and Valmiki intervenes and stops the fight between father and sons. Luv-Kush come to know that Ram is their father. Luv-Kush sings the tragic story of Ram and Sita in the streets of Ayodhya. Luv-Kush sing Ramayan-the story of Shri Ram in his court. People of Ayodhya accept Luv and Kush. Maharshi Valmiki brings Sita to Ayodhya to meet Ram. Mother Earth splits and accepts Sita in her lap. Lakshman goes back to the sea as Sheshnag and Shri Ram enters the Sarayu River for "Jal-samadhi".

Year of telecast: Spellbinding sequel to Ramayan, story of the sons of Ram was first telecasted in 1989 on Doordarshan in 39 episodes. It was also successfully telecasted in: Mauritius, U.K., Kenya and Indonesia. Amid the Coronavirus lockdown, all 39 episodes of this show were re-telecasted on DD National channel following Ramayan from 19 April 2020 to 2 May 2020.

Direction and casting: Luv Kush was produced by Ramanand Sagar, Subhash Sagar and Prem Sagar under the banner of “Sagar Enterprises” and directed by Ramanand Sagar, Anand Sagar and Moti Sagar. Arun Govil played the role of Ram, Deepika as Sita and Dara Singh as Hanuman. Late Dr. Ramanand Sagar was not keen on taking up this subbject, because it portrays Lord Ram is negative light. Also, historically this part of the story of the Ramayan is not very popular with audiences, after the climax of Ram’s coronation is reached. After the success of Ramayan there was a lot of pressure from the government and the “Valmiki Samaj” to do a sequel, to whom he obliged with this mini-series.

Awards: Tele-serial "Uttar Ramayan" bagged 7 awards of the Indian Cinegoers Academy.

Audience Reaction: During the premiere of the series during the Covid-19 lockdown following Ramayan on 19 April 2020, the viewership increased to a greater extent compared to Ramayan and received 18.493 million impressions during the morning slot and 48.553 million impressions during the night slot however being the most-watched Indian television program.
